Abstract:
Many of you may be familiar with the concept of hybrid courses, which move much of the lecture content out of the classroom. These courses usually have reduced seat time to compensate for time spent outside of class consuming the content formerly delivered via lecture. This presentation proposes that this model should be used for all courses, hybrid or not! Based on Harvard physics professor Eric Mazur’s concept of the “inverted classroom,” this session will explore how to switch content delivery with tasks involving greater cognitive complexity, so that students consume materials on their own but have help with the assimilation of the material. We’ll also look at how mobile devices can aid with content delivery.
