Inspired by “choose your fate” books where the reader assumes the role of the main character and makes decisions throughout the story, Jeff Mills developed a “choose your fate” game to help students understand topics in his Principles of Agricultural Economics course. The presentation discusses combining a variety of familiar tools to use text, video, graphics in order to develop a simulation/game. Discussion will also include the games approach for making students think critically and understand key concepts in order to effectively navigate each decision in the game.

What will attendees at this presentation learn that they can apply at their institution/organization?:
Attendees will see an approach to developing a game inside a class that does not require a computer programming degree to develop. The tools used include common and comfortable technologies such as word and camtasia studio. Attendees will leave the session with a sense of empowerment and the ability to develop games in their own courses utilizing some tools they already have at their disposal.
